What Is a Destoner Machine?
A Destoner Machine is a gravity separation machine built to remove stones and other heavy, dense impurities from grain, seed or similar bulk material that are too close in size to be caught by a screen alone. Material is fed onto an inclined, perforated deck, and as the deck vibrates while air is blown up through the perforations, the bed of material stratifies by density: lighter grain floats to the top of the bed and moves down the incline under gravity, while heavier stones sink to the bottom and are carried up the incline by the vibrating deck itself, against the apparent slope. The two streams separate naturally at opposite ends of the deck and are collected through different discharge outlets, giving clean grain on one side and a small stone and reject stream on the other. Because this machine, often supplied as a Food Grade Destoner for seed and food applications, works on density rather than particle size, it catches stones, mud balls, glass and metal pieces that are the same size as the grain itself and would otherwise pass straight through a screen grader undetected. Built specifically for this role, this equipment remains one of the most important pieces of Grain Cleaning Equipment positioned just before milling, packing or export loading, wherever stone contamination is a safety or quality risk.
