What Is a Peanut Decorticator?
A Peanut Decorticator is a machine in which a rotating beater or rotor works against a perforated screen, called a concave, to crack the shells of peanut pods. As the pods are fed in, the rotor breaks the shell by impact and friction, and the freed kernels drop through the screen while the broken shell is carried away, usually with the help of an air stream. The result is a mix of whole kernels, split kernels and shell pieces that is then separated and graded. Because the screen opening, rotor speed and clearance can be set for the pod size, a well matched Groundnut Decorticator breaks the shell without crushing the kernel inside.
